Thermal desorption (TD/GC/MS)

Thermal desorption (TD/GC/MS)

This technique allows for the thermal extraction of volatile or semi-volatile compounds, either directly from a sample or after the volatile compounds have been adsorbed on a twister (magnetized bar covered with polydimethylsiloxane), inside a cell for a specific period of time at controlled temperature. The thermodesorbed compounds are concentrated by cryogenics, before being eluted by a carrier gas to a chromatographic column placed in an oven. A mass spectrometer is used to identify the eluted products. This technique applies to volatile, non-themolabile substances at temperatures of below 300 °C.

Results:

  • Pollutant analysis (solvents, process compounds, etc.)
  • VOC analysis
  • Odor analysis
  • Analytical mapping of vulcanization fumes

Equipment: GC/MS Agilent 6890 N/5973 N
Gerstel TDS 3 Thermodesorber
